UNITE INDY Brings City Leaders Together to Target Race Issues,
Build Support for Underserved People, Neighborhoods and Charities

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, MAY 12, 2017 — Jim Cotterill, former president of National Christian Foundation Indiana and former publisher of Indianapolis Business Journal has announced the formation of UNITE INDY, an organization that will mobilize volunteers, expertise, and funding to support urban churches, ministries, and other charities. Also announced is the release of a transcript of the organization’s first public forum, “Building Race Relationships”, which brings together top city officials and others with special insights.

UNITE INDY will continue to work with city officials, business leaders, law enforcement, pastors, and other key groups to identify, develop, and nurture church-connected, neighborhood-focused collaborations throughout the Indianapolis metropolitan area, focusing first on improving employment and educational opportunities in the six focus areas of high crime and dire poverty highlighted in IU Public Policy Institute’s January 2016 research report “Crime in Indianapolis: Trends, Sources, and Opportunities for Change”.

“We have seen charities that worked where our need was greatest, feeding people, housing them, and giving kids a better start, that closed for lack of support,” said Jim Cotterill. “People are falling through the cracks because we’ve lacked the infrastructure to organize our efforts in the most powerful way. The Christian community and others of good will in this city want to stand up for those who can’t stand on their own, to feed those who are hungry, and to improve and expand educational and economic opportunities to those who are fighting for a place in society. UNITE INDY will provide that structure and support and serve as the link for volunteers to the community’s needs through its website,” he said.

UNITE INDY will improve city-wide awareness of pertinent issues by continuing to hold forums and by printing and distributing the transcripts in an effort to build interest and understanding.

The new entity is a non-denominational Christian organization that will serve as a catalyst to make Indianapolis a more compassionate, caring, and hope-filled community for all it’s citizens. It has filed as an Indiana-based 501(c)3 public charity. Offices are located at 212 West 10th St., Suite C-445, Indianapolis, 46202.
